About the Home Construction Subsidy
The Home Construction Subsidy (HCS) is a government initiative by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (MHUD) designed to support families in constructing affordable housing solutions.
This subsidy provides up to TT$50,000 per household to assist in the construction of a new home. Beneficiaries can choose from pre-approved house plans or submit their own, provided they meet the Programme’s ceiling of TT$300,000 in Trinidad and TT$350,000 in Tobago.
To qualify for the Home Construction Subsidy, applicants must:
Have a household income of TT$120,000 or less per year.
Be a citizen and resident of Trinidad and Tobago.
Be at least 18 years old.
Not own any property or be a part-owner of any property in Trinidad and Tobago.
Not have received any other housing subsidy from MHUD or its agencies.
Step 2: Select a House Plan
To qualify for the Home Construction Subsidy, applicants must:
Choose from MHUD’s pre-approved house plans with estimated material and construction costs.
Submit their own approved house plan if:
The MHUD determines that the total estimated cost is within the programme’s ceiling.
A Quantity Surveyor (QS) confirms that the proposed construction meets the budget requirements.
Step 3: Submit Your Application
Complete the HCS application form
Provide proof of eligibility, including identification, income verification, and land ownership documents.
Submit the application to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.
Step 4: Approval & Funding
Applications will be reviewed, and qualifying households will be notified of their approval.
Funds will be disbursed in tranches to ensure effective use during the construction process.
Step 5: Project Completion
Once repairs and upgrades are complete, the Ministry conducts a final inspection to verify that the improvements align with the approved scope of work.
